Profile Picture Best Practices
Profile Photo
The first impression potential clients get from your profile is your photo. Seeing who is potentially coming to their home can be a very powerful way to build (or break) trust for clients.
When choosing a photo for your profile keep these things in mind:
A well-lit photo that shows your entire face and has a friendly expression.
A plain background for the photo (think a plain colored wall).
If you shop with a partner you’ll want to utilize a picture that has both of your faces on it!
It doesn’t have to be a glamour shot – just something to give them a taste of who you are!
Don't forget to smile!
Pro-Tips
If you want to use a logo or a photo of you shopping from further away, these often fit better as website images. See our blog for more information here.

Set Yourself Apart With 'About Me'
Set Yourself Apart With 'About Me'
Next, you’ll want to dive into the “about me” section. This is a great spot to give some details about you and your business. Some people choose to use small paragraphs, while others opt for bullet points – either way works!
Begin with a sentence or two about who you are as a person- Giving a little information in this section can help clients relate to you or even share specific experience that would benefit them as your customers.
Questions to think about:
Do you have any work-appropriate hobbies or clubs that you participate in?
Do you have experience in a food-related industry that would give you food safety knowledge?
Add a sentence or two about your business - Tell clients what you excel at or specialize in as a shopper! Maybe you pride yourself on communication, replacements, going the extra mile, doing large orders, specialty diets, and shopping for kids. Whatever it is, let your clients know!
Questions to think about:
Why did you start your business?
What do you enjoy about personal shopping?
If you’ve been shopping for a while be sure to tell them (Pro tip: Something like “I’ve been a personal shopper for 2 years”, sounds a lot more professional than “I do Instacart/Shipt”).
Don’t forget to mention any other details that will help them connect with your business.
You could share details on your COVID safety protocols, list additional stores you provide delivery from, or even advertise other services you offer.
Maybe you want them to follow your business on social media or be aware that you have a referral discount.
Add Specialty Tags to also show what your business specializes in.
Pro-Tips:
8-10 of tags can highlight important information for potential clients at a quick glance.
Tags can be related to diets/allergies you are comfortable shopping for, other services you offer, or just information about your business that may align with your customers.
For example: You can include in the tags that you are a veteran-owned company or following COVID safety practices.
Make sure to keep up with any changes in your business such as featuring a new review, updating your About Me, etc.
Make sure to double-check your grammar and punctuation, you can use tools like Grammarly to do this or send your profile to a friend/family member.
Remember to go through your profile every 4-6 months and update it as needed to give your client the most up-to-date information.
Clearly Define Your Delivery Area
Setting up your delivery location is just as important as your profile text! Advertising outside of where you are willing to deliver often creates conflict and results in canceled orders.
Pro Tips:
You can avoid cancellations by making sure that your delivery area reflects how far you are willing to travel for the price that you have set and will help limit unwanted orders. Only add zip codes to your delivery zone that you are willing to deliver to. This will help avoid receiving orders that you don't want to do and canceling them, which can negatively impact how your business shows up in the Marketplace.
Be clear and concise about the description of your delivery zone so that potential clients know right away if you service their area. Consider saying something like “Greater _ metro area” or “East Valley”.
Let's talk about how your business shows up on a search card in the Dumpling Marketplace. Remember, this is the quick snapshot that your potential clients will see when searching for a shopper. Some of the things that will be shown within your search card on the Dumpling Marketplace are:
Your profile picture
Tagline: A tagline is one or two phrases that provide clarity, entertainment, or emphasis to help highlight your brand's mission or purpose. It is a great way for clients to feel connected to your business. It can also help set your business apart from other businesses within your area. You want to keep your tagline short but catchy. Think about other business slogans like “Just Do It”, “Eat Fresh”, “Quicker Picker Upper”, and “Happiest Place On Earth”.

Specialty tags: Specialty tags are to showcase what it is your business specializes in. Remember that these should be things that you have knowledge about and try to separate your business from other business owners around you. If there is a store that you shop at that isn’t listed within the app, add that to the specialty tags. If you have knowledge of specific foods or products, mention that as well. Do you speak another language? Add that! Remember, 8-10 tags are ideal. More than this and they will start to lose importance.

Website URL and Bringing It All Together
How to Maximize Your Website URL Image & Title
A huge part of being a business owner is having the freedom to develop your own branding and set your business apart from the competition. Your business’s website is the most obvious place to customize your brand’s look. This is the perfect place to use that new logo or cover photo you have been working on!
However, it’s also important to think about how the links to your landing pages will appear once you start sharing your site’s URL on various platforms.
Pro Tips:
When you post a link to your personal Dumpling webpage (i.e. my dumpling.us/biz/xxx) on social channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc), SMS/Text, and various other places, an image, title, and description for your website are automatically populated and shown as a thumbnail/preview.
You have the ability to change your business image, title, and description in these link previews through your Boss app. This gives you the chance to enhance the first impression of your business wherever your link is shared.
When choosing an image, make sure it is clear and professional. You can create your own using tools such as Canva or Wordswag. We recommend using a logo, cover photo from your business, or any photo that represents you or your branding.
Changing your Website Title to your business’s name or a tagline is also a great idea. And the Website Description section is a good place to add the areas you serve (for example “Serving the *city* and surrounding areas,” or “Servicing within 10 miles of *neighborhood/area*”).
